Yoshi Amao is one of the hottest Asian actors in New York right
now. He is well known as the host of the highly rated TV series on
OLN (Outdoor Life Network), Samurai Sportsman. On this show, Yoshi faced the challenges of American
traditional outdoor sports including: bass fishing, duck hunting,
axe throwing, off road biking and eventually rodeo (including bareback
riding, bull riding, and steer wrestling). As he learned each of these
sports, Yoshi also taught his samurai spirit and sword technique to
each outdoor expert he worked with. Before the program aired in 2004,
a press conference for this show was held in Hollywood at the beginning
of 2004. Yoshi answered a lot of questions from the large group of
media that was in attendance. He was also invited as a main guest
on The
Late Night with Conan O' Brien show on NBC where his discussion
of samurai philosophy and his unique sword demonstration touched the
hearts of the American audience.
Yoshi Amao is also the leader of Samurai
Sword Soul, and has led them to many events including The Cherry
Blossom Festival at The Brooklyn Botanic Garden since 2003. Here he
has been the charismatic MC and the group has entertained huge audiences.
He also conducts the Samurai Sword
Fighting Workshop each week.
His acting career started when he was a DJ on MBS Radio in Osaka,
Japan. Since arriving in New York in 1990, Yoshi has been entertaining
New Yorkers not only as a samurai/martial artist but also as an actor/comedian/MC/voice
talent. He has appeared in a Budweiser Commercial (Wasabi Version)
which was selected as the best commercial of the year in 2000. He
is also remembered for his funny, solo commercial for ESPN.
In 2006, Yoshi acted in a lot of Samurai films including "Shadow of Death", filmed in the Pocono Mountains, and a "Monday Night Football Promo" on ESPN, as well as acting on the stage.
He will continue to train in his sword fighting and acting and appear on a big screen soon.
Ladies and gentlemen, keep your eye on Yoshi Amao, and watch for what he will do next!
